Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I found the contacts or something like them. I am attaching a photo. I used a screwdriver to scrape off in between the two contact points and it started right up. I have started it several times since installing it back into my Shopsmith and it is working like a charm. Thanks for the help. Once again this is a picture of inside my 1 1/4 horsepower Emerson motor.

You found the correct parts, but the actual contact points are 'inside' the bell shaped part. I believe the scraping dislodged whatever was holding the contacts open. The silver colored post is a 'stop' for the open position of the moving bell shaped contact.
