At the risk of dragging this thread back to the original subject, I have revised my take on the most appropriate fix.

I hope you haven't put it all back together yet, meangreen.

It has been pointed out that the motor has been dropped. That being done, I would make the repair by replacing the entire white wire. Inside the access cover there is a connector block where this broken wire attached to the motor.

This is NOT the Mark V motor but there is a similar connector panel in the Mark V motor.

BTW - notice the yellow plug on the end of the motor. Where ever one of these exists, on the inside there are bearings that just beg to be oiled now and then. This is the motor on my Crafter's Station. A similar motor exists on the Power Station.

There is an identical oil port on the other end of the motor.

That makes about as much logic as replacing a new bride because she got nervous and burned the first meal...
Do you always over-react to minor electrical problems like that?
Cut and re-strip the end of the wire, crimp on a new terminal and move on. That is what Meangreen has done. You will note that he said it is now throwing sawdust all over the place.
The wire was not defective, it was physically damaged at the crimp. The rest of that wire should be still as good as any other wire in the machine.

I forget all citations in support of this, but I think the Std. 5pc. set is Asian-sourced these days. Some of the new Specialty turning sets are still fashioned in "British Steel." My recent-model [Asian] Std. 5-pc set is quite well-made, and I find the steel to be heavier than was used in older non-HSS Shopsmith turning tools.

Not to derail the thread but I wonder if the the thicker steel is required because the overall quality of the steel so low that a heavier design is required? But in any case to simply fall out on the first use????? What is that??????????

So, dusty, if the thread starter (meangreen, in this case) has a solution that he/she is satisfied with, please tell me the harm in deviating from the original subject. The problem was expressed, members responded with possible solutions, the problem was corrected. As far as the original subject is concerned, wood knot any other input be the same as no further input at all? The thread starter himself expanded the subjects of the thread in the post that he made telling us of his success. He added the lathe chisel problem and the source of his photograghy skills.

I will start another thread on this subject, and am looking forward to yours and other members responses.
