( Ranger) as a Long Ranger Recon Patrol (LRRP) team leader, 4th ID in An Khe most of the time. I have a Bronze star ( meritorious service) Air Medal ( lots of insertions!) and a CIB ( the most important to me). Military service
I enlisted in the USAF in Feb 1967. I left the USAF as a Staff Sergeant, E5, in Jan 1971. I spent my entire enlistment in San Antonio, Texas. I was at Lackland AFB for boot camp for 6 weeks and earned the American Spirit of Honor medal. After boot camp, I collected my one an only travel check of $1.67 to report to Randolph AFB, literally across town, where I spent four years in the accounting/finance office. Having had an accounting background, I was frozen to base in order to help implement and test a new service wide accounting system. This was during the Vietnam conflict and I always felt that I missed something by not going to serve in Vietnam. I took advantage of my stateside service and when to college at night and completed many units leaving me only one year to complete and graduate from San Diego State University. I also met my wife in San Antonio and we have been married for 42 years and have three wonderful sons.
I am proud to have served in the USAF.
