Hey I just talked to him last week. It seems that if not within arms reach, it ain't gonna happen! However if one can believe the shipping invoice, all those 'not sure if we have them' parts were shipped.

He does give the impression that he JDNGAD!

Geez I would hope the Mark 7 has TWO lock screws!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoke with Linda at CS yesterday - she indicated that the locks and knobs were never supposed to be part of the deal. Seemed odd to me, but ok I guess. She said they would have to have a meeting about my situation and get back to me. Got an email this morning saying they would send me the parts.

Should I be happy? I'm kinda mixed. I'm certainly not extatic that there was any question of whether they would honor what was listed on their website...especially for parts that are not that expensive...and especially for parts that clearly make sense as a part of the package. Admittedly, I was a bit offended when there was any question or required discussion regarding this particular order. I mean, I have bought plenty of stuff from them, and I have also encouraged plenty of local people to buy stuff from them as well...should never have been a question.

Oh well, I guess it is resolved. For those ordering this part in the future, and for those who have already ordered it, be sure to read the description. It sounded like they may give you one extra lock knob. Seems like including two would be smart, and the extra $3.75 retail (so more like $2 or less for them) is a minor hit given the price tag of the upgrade.

It all depends on whether or not your "year-end take home" is a function of the bottom line or not.

Whoever wrote the initial parts description knew what was actually required to make the whole thing work. That person is likely salaried (or hourly) and gets no annual bonus.

Well, I am glad that they honored what was listed on the website. It should be noted that they have changed the website:
Here's What's Included With Your Upgrade Kit:
• Two New Base & Arm Assemblies with (2) Pivot Bases, (2) Pivot Arms & (2) Horizontal Lock Knobs
• Two New Double-Rack Worktable Posts with Locking Pins
• Comprehensive Instructions

All that I can go by is what I have experienced myself and I have never been disappointed by Shopsmith Customer Service. I have dealt with Dave about as much as with anyone else. Linda, Dave and Jan have been the points of contact in customer service for years.

Others may see it different but I judge these matters only from what I have personally experienced.

Perhaps it is not so much that he is so 'bad' as he is not as 'good' as the others. There is quite a difference in 'apparent' attitude. There is a difference between "I donnow" and 'I can try to find out"!

P.S. Either he gets computer screen images from someplace different from me, or he does not read the 'red' letters regarding availability on discontinued items.

I confess that I have on rare occasions found Dave seemed to be in a rush. In fact I have found myself pushing him a bit on questions when I felt he was not providing complete answers. When pushed he has always met the challenge. Jan and Linda on the other hand are pro's; they know their products and customers. They add a special dimension to customer service. Given time I suspect Dave will relax as he learns the products as Jan and Linda have. I wish all of them the very best. Fjimp

I don't know about that, Jim. I have never had a problem with Dave but if there really is one - he has had plenty of time to learn the details and to learn what is expected of him at Shopsmith.

Now that I am thinking about this, I must admit that I try to call Shopsmith early in the work day - like before noon their time. It seems to me that the ladies open for business and Dave comes on in relief.
