Holy cow you guys are awesome! I had forgotten how friendly and helpful the Shopsmith community is.

And the answer is...

The switch was wired incorrectly. I have warned my wife to be extremely skeptical if I ever tell her I'm going to be doing electrical work around the house.

Anyway, I followed heathicus' link to the thread which very plainly stated the proper configuration of the leads, and I did in fact have them reversed.

FYI, I was a little underwhelmed by the plastic switch my Dad gave me from his old SS, so I'm not complaining that I sprang for a brand new 20 Amp DPST switch from Grainger. Now I can't wait to put the whole thing back together and make some sawdust! (Of course, we're leaving for the weekend in about an hour...)

Indeed! It helps to know which hypothesis(speculatiom)/educated guess proves out. Input for the next time!!!

I knew it!!! might not know woodworking like ya all do but I do know a little about wiring!
