a theory

Post by fiatben »

Maybe it's like my old truck and the odometer has rolled over. My truck only has 560 miles on it and it's an '86! Considering the way a Shopsmith is made, it really isn't the hours on it as much as the abuse it has taken. I'm convinced that one that is properly maintained and lubed will run FOREVER!!

Re: squirrel feeder, if you get tired of trying to outsmart the tree rats, you can simply put canola seeds in the bird feeders. Squirrels don't like them, won't bother them and the birds will continue to eat. Simple solution. Canola seeds available at Lowe's and HD in the same section as the other critter seeds.

Ed, don't know if our wives are talking, but I need to get my machines in shape where I feel mentally comfortable. And, yes, I need to do all that cleaning before the spring because when the cold winds are gone and the temps get back up, I'm out of here and breathing pure fresh sawdust. :D

I just love it when she says I can go make sawdust. ;) :D

for the love of squirrels

On a related note, one of the gifts I made for Christmas was for a neighbor. It was a squirrel nesting box. Neat thing was I made it out of scrap lumber I salvaged from a remodel so it only cost me a little bit of time (very quick project) and a few nails.

I think I still have every cut off of every board I've ever used...even tiny pieces. That's getting to be my biggest problem. I see no solution for this problem. Each time I use a cut off, I end up with a smaller cut off, which I save.
If I need a big board to start, I get one from my stash, and the cycle of ever shrinking pieces begins anew. Help me...

I feel your pain. Recently posted in a thread seeking good solutions. I think this is a common struggle except for those who seem to no reservations about burning perfectly good wood. :p

squirrels

Post by billmeyer »

I have been putting out a live trap to rid myself of a raccoon that has been tearing up my heat ducts. I caught it twice now, but it lets itself out before I can a long ways from my house. I caught a squirrel in it once and watched it to see if it would get out. It would work at the cage a little bit, then go back and eat my bait. It did this 4 or 5 times before I let it loose in the yard. A squirrel can sure jump a long ways before it hits the ground leaving a cage!

Tie the door shut before transporting(preferably at least one county away)!
