That is because they succumbed to the "I want" urge rather than "I need".

And just how any people like that are there? I suspect very few, and they (the ones I've seen) have good reasons, like death, illness, divorce, etc.

Concerning JPG's thought about want vs. need: I disagree!!! I wanted a PowerPro, I didn't need it. Also, when you come right down to it, I wanted a MarkV, I didn't need it.

What about the guy who wants a PP and a divorce but doesn't need either?

I know, the NEED thing will take a bit of planning! Then, with excitement, exclaim how much you can do if you only had a PowerPro. (these things are of course, things she wants done.) If there really is a need, you know the "things". If there is a special - it will help! Timing is crucial :)

If you can sock away a "foxy pocket" that would help! "Look! I've been saving for it"!.

If you get it - the honey do list is in concrete!!!

Since you already have several Shopsmiths, things that are done on lower speed are the jobs you can quote. - like using large forstner bits????

Just about every Shopsmith I've purchased or been given has come along with plenty of unused items. I have say it has taught me to use the stuff. Of course, I have plenty of stuff that if I stopped woodworking today would never have been used.

Look up a Total Solutions Micro Kerf Sawblade. If I had paid the retail rate, I'd probably be tempted to never use it. You think Forrest is expensive, this one goes for $185 for a 10" blade. :)

My "wife" isn't.

Or, I'm a single me. I (and the accountant) get to make
ALL my "stoopid" decisions. And, I do NOT have an accountant
to blame my bad choices on.

On the other hand, I'll be loaning a Model 10 "Lathe" to my older
brother, in a few days. He is NOT into the whole "Shopsmith" thing,
since our old neighbor had a Mark 7. He thinks, STILL, that plastic
stuff in the drive train is not "kosher." (This was the middle 60's,
guys.) 2 of my younger (that is 2 out of 5) brothers HAVE Model
10s.

My Model 10s have plastic switch handles, and quill feed knobs!
Oh, paper protectors, too.

Charles I have no idea of how many buy a SS and never use it. I have no empirical data but I know of at least 10. And none that I can remember were the result of death, divorce or an illness. Two of the most surprising were a power pro and a Mark VII.
