That is not a problem with mine. The block that attaches to the gauge face will fit flush on mine and the screws go into that block nice and straight.
The problem with mine is that I can't simultaneously attach the block the gauge face and attach the Safety grip to the smaller block under the heel of the grip.

So 'loose' is NOT intentional?

Are you referring to the flat head screws bottoming out?

The chamfer is on the rear block.

I deleted my comments. I had a crack at helping fix this and failed. What do I know!

Still an interesting problem and I'll be watching to see what was done.

In post 30 Alan states the grip will not move downward.

In post 34? [nope, 37] I became suspicious of the chamfer/bevel. It could be not clearing the grip and preventing it being lowered towards the hole.

Clearly, the socket head screws that fasten the block to face come from Incra with the block not fully machined to fit the screws. Call Incra to report clearance issues with blocks. Incra will send new blocks that fit... Incra and ShopSmith should issue recalls to fix problems. You have to go to the source to get results. Incra machined the blocks with issues...

Just a quick note, the blocks are not manufactured by Incra. Shopsmith supplies the blocks and knobs that come with the V120 for the Shopsmith.

In my experience, Incra addressed the clamp block issue then Shopsmith sent a repair kit to me. Incra may farm out some metal work. In this case, only Shopsmith and Incra know for sure. What do you know about Woodpeckers? Woodpeckers share products with Incra... Thanks for your input... My issues with Incra V120 are resolved 100%...

Just to keep everything straight:

Shopsmith sells the safety grip for the Shopsmith Miter Gauge and has for many years; since long before Incra ever came into being.

Incra designed and sells the Incra V120.

Shortly after the V120 came out, Incra and Shopsmith partnered to provide the V120 with the Shopsmith Safety Grip and a Mark V compatible miter bar.

I have purchased an Incra Miter Bar for the Shopsmith as an item. I don't know if they still sell it or not.

I had the Safety Grip long before I had a V120. I do not recall how my V120 got marriied to the Safety Grip but it did. I assume that when I bought the V120 I ordered it with that in mind.

This doesn't make everything perfectly clear but good enough. I labor under the assumption that the Shopsmith compatible miter bar for the V120 is an Incra item and that the Safety Grip is Shopsmith's contribution to the Shopsmith compatible V120. The V120 itself is clearly an Incra item.

What I do know for absolute, positive certainty is that combined they make a fantastic Miter Gauge for use on a Mark 5/V.

OK, I just heard back from Shopsmith customer service. For those of you keeping score, Shopsmith at its expense picked up both the Incra v120 and my old Safety Grip so they could verify the problem.

Shopsmith said the Incra v120 I sent back to them was made completely to spec, including both the front (fence) block and the rear (heel) block.

Shopsmith also said that they were unable to install my Safety Grip on any Incra v120 they had in stock.

Shopsmith said the problem was the Safety Grip post, which was "too wide." I don't really know what that means but I suspect that means that there was not enough play where the TOP of the Safety Grip post went into the Safety Grip and therefore the Safety Grip could not be pivoted properly into position over the heel block on the Incra.

I think JPG suggested something like this in one of his posts, so he gets the Grand Prize, which is to say "I told you so!"


Shopsmith has put a new Safety Grip post in and is returning it along with the Incra v120. And I am ...

Great customer service and another example of Shopsmith honoring to fix defects for the life of the Shopsmith even though I am not its original owner. Hats off to Shopsmith.
