OK, suit yourself. If you are curious about what other solutions there might be, just keep an eye on the forum for pictures. Scrutinize them all not just the ones in threads about turning.

Dusty, everytime I post a picture I try to be your eyes and see what you are going to spot that nobody else would pay any attention to. When you noticed that I had my table locking screws in the wrong place on my new 10ER I knew then you must shift + every photo posted here and try to learn all about a person by what he has stored around his shop. And if you have any suggestions about my chip collecting issue I would be eager to hear them.

You must have me confused with someone else. I know absolutely nothing about the 10ER except that Shopsmith did not manufacture it.

After containment wall removed, you can see the shavings were contained, ready for cleanup.

My first attempt at a Natural Edge bowl. Will bag it for now and thin up the walls in a few months. Getting faster at this, total setup, turning and cleanup time this morning was less than 2 hours.

Does it work? I don't know. How much further away would those chips have been without the wall.

However, the bowl looks as though the turning task is going well. Good job!

I think post # 1 answers that question quite well It has performed as I had hoped and reduced my cleanup time quite a bit. And I now have 5 gallons of shavings that I can use as bag stuffings with my bowls.

I have found that when turning the outside of a fresh block chips fly over my original containment walls. I added some 1/4 inch panels to raise the height of 4 of the walls near the business end of the lathe.

I will give this new setup a test tomorrow evening to see if it does a better job of containing the small chips that fly off the fresh block when I'm rounding it out.

Once I'm finished they still fold up and tuck away in the corner of my half of the garage along with my 520 and 10ER. My other 10ER and 500 shorty OPR are to the right in the other half of my half of the garage.
