Fred, I vote for the teardrop too. I would also say, keep it simple. My wife has a little one drawer bandsaw box cut from about a 3" diameter log. It's no more than about 3"in any dimension. She loves it and keeps a few special rings in it. You're making a passel of these. .. no need for them to be complex.

Artsy or functional. the alternatives are obvious.

I say let the raw material determine much!

Style

Since the teardrop style is much harder to make and the drawers don't hold as much do to their shape, I have decided to go with a more standard shape for the next few boxes and see how it goes. Then I will decide which way I want to go for the remaining boxes.

Can't seem to get going on these jewelry boxes. Takes at least 5 times as long to make one as a Bowl. And one slip of the band saw and you destroy your work. Don't ask me how I know :(

At this rate I will only have a dozen or so by Christmas. Only very close family members will be getting one instead of 60 family and friends like last Christmas with the bowls.

When it comes to the "design" of a bandsaw box, you're only limited by your imagination!

Here's some I've made (click on the picture for a bigger version):
