Well, you ordered and paid for a new machine and that is what the manufacturer must provide. I am sure that SS as well as FedEx has insurance to cover these type of incidents.
My question is why Fed Ex had the item on a small local delivery truck going through rural Pa when the final destination is in Connecticut? Does not strike me as logistical efficiency. Anywho I hope it gets straightened out soon.

It's odd... I just rechecked the tracking progress on fedex.com and at 7:24 pm today they updated the tracking to "in transit" in Middletown, Pa. I don't know what to think. If this is true I may have to apologize for a few nastygrams! I'll be heading to Florida on Friday for four days. I hope they don't come then!

Chris
I think that it would be prudent to notify Fed Ex that you will be away from the final destination and what date you will be returning. You know now that Mr Murphy is at work and delivery will be attempted when you are not there!
They should have the facility to put in a hold under the circumstances.

Got an email from Shopsmith customer service at 8:15 this morning. A new unit will be shipped next week. Can't ask for better treatment than that! I apologized for my nastygram! :o

Had a similar situation a few years back and ended up with two scroll saws, did the right thing and sent one back.
I wonder...

IF they caused the fire, yes.

Well as I was heading for the airport I received a notification that the power pro has arrived in Connecticut! Only smoke damage to the box. Shopsmith tells me to keep the cartons just case they need to replace it. We'll see Wednesday. Optimistic.
