Ya know whut? This has developed a perfect answer to the flat table questions. SS should offer, at a fair price (not much considering postage costs), a FLAT table for them as want one or need one for their particular porpoises.
They may assume- for all I know- that most SS purchasers don't need or want the accuracy and peace of mind one gets with precision parts. So why not offer same as a Special Accessory, so a user won't have to send a table back three times (to end up with what he thot he was going to get I the first place)?

When I got mine in mid-80's (I think) it was from the only SS store I knew of in the area, in San Leandro. A Berkeley store wodda been terrific, as we lived right across the bay in San Rafael.

I have come to the conclusion that what Shopsmith accepts as a "flat table" and what I would "like to have" are two different things. During my recent conversations regarding this topic, I did not learn what the specifications were (Shopsmith specifications are well guarded secrets) but I was informed that the measurements on my three tables "were not out of spec".
