which/what hand plane

I used a 60s/70s Stanley no. 4 Handyman on a project a few years back, and it did fine. Later I got a real Stanley Bailey and could see it was better, but the first-step plane wasn't that bad.... smoothed out a lot of recycled pine just fine:

Very nice Chris! And thanks.

I WANT to do most of my WW with the shopsmith(s) because I am a machine guy from a Caterpillar D8 to a '32 Deuce Coupe to a Shopsmith, however, there is a certain allure to working wood by hand power ...... ;)
