Re: Laughs and Giggles
It's funny as in strange how a thread called "Laughs and Giggles" heads off the deep end.
I'm a Vietnam veteran, I served in the 63IPCT as a dog handler and later as the mine and tunnel dog leader. I saw combat and it is not something one should joke about or make untrue claims about, it is serious stuff and a lot of my friend and fellow solders left there blood and lives over there.
A silver star is a very ratified metal, I'd have to look it up but I think it was awarded to something less then 300 times during the whole war to Army personal. A lot of them it was awarded posthumously. So if you claim to be one you darn well better be one.
I don't want to pass judgment here.
So far as helicopters I never got to ride in one of the big boys. We were deployed to units already in the field and got rides in on smaller copters. I even once got a ride in one with doors on it, felt strange, most of the time you were hanging out with dangling feet. Some times you felt as if you were going to fall out in a sharp banking turn, the dogs didn't seem to mind or even notice.
On one mission we were returning to a fire base and saw an RPG just miss us. Small arms fire got the tail rotor so it was an interesting ride the last couple of hundred yards but we landed safely.
The little observation copters were almost like those star wars motorcycle machines, going flat out just over the trees most of the time. One pilot was known for coming back with branches on the runners..... I forget how fast they went but it sure seem fast. And I hate to say it but it was fun riding along. It was that or guys that like to get really really high and then it seemed like you weren't moving but about 20 miles an hour.
Well OK enough about those time.

Re: Laughs and Giggles
Ed, I knew a few OH58 pilots, when I was in.
Your assessment is right on. They told me,
they could center the controls, and lean in
unison to make the aircraft change pitch,
roll and yaw. (I think they could only achieve
pitch and roll, though. Yaw is MOST difficult,
in a weight shift machine.)
All the Army helicopters, up to the Huey (best
aircraft the country ever bought!) had an
artificial centering, on the cyclic. Hit the
button, and that was a centered position.
Kinda like "cruise control," but not Get into
stabilized flight, hit the button, and your
controls were centered about that point.
Think about steering in 4 different directions.
Your car will return to straight ahead, if you
let go of the wheel. In a helicopter, you can
set the center, for both pitch (up and down)
and roll, (aileron control, or simple left and
right) Yaw would be uncontrolled left and right,
but needs to be in unison with pitch. If you've
ridden a motorcycle, or even a bike, you know.
If you crank the handlebars, (yaw) you're going
down. If you lean into a corner, (roll) you'll do
just fine. A car's steering wheel is simply yaw,
but it has 4 wheels, to keep it from falling over.
(Maybe, that is why Ron Bender rode a bike?)

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.
Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Re: Laughs and Giggles
Using the model number provided I was able to look up the machine and depending on which variation they were listed as reaching 149 mph and cruise speed of 127 so we were really flying over the tree tops...... Even the huey UH-1 was pretty fast cruising at 125 mph and a top end of 135.
They wanted me to be a WO but I would have had to sign up for 4 more years and it was with almost a promise of flying in RVN. They were courting me so I played along and missed out on a lot of weekend inspections until it came time to sign on the line. I declined. Had it been another time I might have even given way to doing so as I loved riding and racing motorcycles at that time.
Well they showed me, I went off to be a grunt.

I agree the hearings were worst than terrible, but are you telling me you believed her???davebodner wrote:Funny how two people can come away with two completely different opinions. I sat through the hearing...in the hearing room. Her back was to me and a couple of hundred other spectators. And I saw a travesty of questioning. After Trey Goudy announced that the hearing wasn't about trying to get Hillary, each Republican questioner turned that into a lie. Most questions were designed to make her look bad, not to get at what happened. She came off looking better than I had expected because the House committee majority was so unhinged and, frankly, incompetent. Hillary didn't have to be clever. All she had to do was tell the truth. And in this case it wasn't that hard.Ed in Tampa wrote:
In my opinion her answers or lack there of should be enough to disqualify her from holding any public office. Anyone that watched the testimony had to see her manipulate each question either to make it come out in her favor or bring her to place where she could say she did not remember. Interesting selective memory. She can remember ever damaging thing her opponents ever said but she magically forgets some of the crucial to the fact things she said.
She is a dye in the wool liar!
And let me give you one more bit of information: her bladder held out longer than mine. I'm not sure what that's indicative of, but I took it as a good thing.
I can't imagine someone listening to her and coming away thinking she was being honest. Amazing! Maybe it was because I could see her face, her face told the story.

I don't remember a lot of "I can't recall"s. I thought she remembered lots of details, though her remembering was probably triggered by her reviewing documents before she testified.I agree the hearings were worst than terrible, but are you telling me you believed her???

What part of her story don't you believe? Is there something in particular you want to focus on? (he says hoping this remains civil)

I have stopped paying attention to her. She has done nothing to counteract the lack of veracity in almost everything she has said in the past.
I remain skeptical that she will in any way change that habit of saying what she wants rather than 'as it is'.
Hope "2", but I doubt that also.
No point in cherry picking, the trend has been established. Details are irrelevant, the mindset is what counts.

Re: Laughs and Giggles
It was proven she knew this was a terrorist attack against the US while trying to sell the idea that it was Muslim indignation over insults to their religion. Further it has been proven that instead of sending help the whole thing was downplayed. Lastly her response to people trying to get to the truth of what actually happen her response was, what difference does it make. Difference? The truth would give the parents and loved ones of those that died the real reason they died.davebodner wrote:I don't remember a lot of "I can't recall"s. This country's leaders including Hillary have taken the attitude that the death of someone other themselves is terrible but means little more than giving away a flag at their burial. This seemingly has been the attitude of having thousands killed in Iraq and walking away, thousands killed in Afganistan and walking away. Shipping back terrorist from captivity in Guantanamo, then having her sit there and say she cared.
Do you not remember how she lied about the women her husband had sex with while on the job in the White House?
The woman has been proven to be a liar all her life, even to the extent of being fired from her first political job.
Frankly I believe this discussion is futile I'm certain that if you don't see her and her life as one big lie, after another lie you never will.

Re: Laughs and Giggles
Come on, guys/gals. Why all of the political chatter?
Is anyone making sawdust. Believe me, if the doctor would allow, I'd be out in the shop and NOT HERE!!!
BTW, open heart surgery is a piece of cake. It's the recovery that nails you.
