You can help the motor shop by removing the floating sheave/spring etc. Not for the faint hearted!

So you don't recommend leaving it on, so they can test it under a load?
Or should they be able to determine that without applying a physical load?

It will be in their way when they go to disassemble it to get inside. If they truly have experience with SS motors, it will be a minimal inconvenience to them. However if not, . . .

I found removing that spring with out a jig is a 2 person job, one to hold a board with a hole in it for the spring, and compressing it while the other undoing the clip or nut holding/retaining the spring.

Thanks JPG that was where I learned it and wanted to pass it on, just did not remember where to go. A audio/video is is better then 10K words. Just that I had no inner tubes or cradle, and after my neighbor tried to ease off the board the spring and cup was bouncing all over the the garage!!!

He likely has the washer rather than the cup.

FWIW, with the cup I use my left hand to compress and right hand to maneuver the pliers. Total control mandatory!

Even with the motor spring and sheave removed a good electric motor shop should be able to put the motor under load for a proper check. They can also check startup current and run current as well.

Thanks JPG. I'll view that video and give it a try. I don't want to give a shop the chance to break a sheave.

I've got to get this thing fixed. I hate seeing her in my garage all ready to go other than a capable motor. I really wish I could get my old reliable 3/4HP AO Smith from my 10er in there. That thing is bullet proof.

As stated on the other thread, it turned out to be bad windings in the motor. I bought a replacement from Bill Mayo, and all is well. Thank you Bill.
