James

If true, I wonder what and why this would be the case? It would seem there is actually less contact with the Grizzly than the SS belt.

The abrasive quality of the link belt edges vs the rubber edges of a typical v-balt.

I think each link tends to 'slide' more.

Interesting! I wonder how much more wear, a little or a lot? Of course not a problem on a A pulley set up because the edges never touch the pulley.

I believe the wear is minimal as he continues to use them and I believe he started using them in 2010...

Bill, is that correct?

Still true, or is my memory faulty?
I know Skip Campbell has said that they cause excessive ware on 10ER aluminum pulleys and the speed changer. Others have said it is not true.

Very true that the link belt does cause more wear on the sheaves than the V-belt. However, I found it to acceptable and it keeps the sheave vanes clean and shiny. The wear seems to more uniform across the vanes maybe due to the wider link belt. I am sure it will take thousands of hours to wear out the sheaves. I only got into the hundreds of hours of wear (hour meter) so I could not really notice any real wear on the sheave vanes. The aluminum dust is more noticeable in the headstock.

It was when Shopsmith went to a 1/2" belt as a replacement belt that I started using link belts on my personal headstocks. I believe I only used a few link belts on customers headstocks. The time period sounds right for this.

I think I misunderstood the term "Edges" in your post, I guess you were talking about the faces of the Vee belt, I thought you were talking about the edges of top at the rim. Please accept my "Dumb"
