The interesting part is where I fill in my wife's information like her state ID. They want that card number and the issue date and the expiration date....... IL issues "lifetime" ID's after you are I think 65. So my wife's card expires 99/99/9999 and guess what the software will not except that.

I tried to find some information this but I'm thinking it is a pretty new error so only limited people have found it so far. I don't think leaving it blank is an issue but I'll find out once I attempt to submit it.

Ed
Ed, using TurboTax, had NONE of those issues.
But, I'm single, and have no Driver License,
but DO have a state ID.

They asked me my ID number, and the expiration date.
If there was no expiration date, leave that blank.

Took me 1 hour to file, and 30 minutes were the ride
home from the shop. It seems that the wife SWMBI
didn't send the NEW W2 form to the accoutant.

(SWMBI,She Who MUST Be IGNORED!)

Last year, my W2 form showed up in the boss's
mailbox, because I had moved that year. Tried
to prevent a recurring theme, so I filed ANOTHER
W-4 late LAST year. Didn't work! SWMBI is to
blame! (That woman can't urinate without pulling
down trousers, which she often forgets.) I'm surprised
when she walks OR chews gum, at the same time!

She has issues breathing!

I've only heard the boss using FOUL language,
when talking TO or ABOUT her!
(Boss professes to be a decent Mormon
man, and I agree) But the PROFANITY I've
heard him spout, at his LOML is amazing!

I'm SINCERELY glad, I'm single!

Sorry to rant here, guys.

Everything is entered and checked. Good thing too, found I forgot a bit of withholding on a 1099R. Now I'm getting back just over $100.

Ready to submit and like some of you it will be another 11 months before I even have to think about this again.

JPG I did try a few combinations but the form doesn't seem to like them, someone has designed in protection from some date entries, I will try yours when I get to that actual submission..... I expect someone in IL didn't follow all the guidelines when they made this change to "lifetime" ID's. The good news is that they are free rather then the $8 or was it $10 before and expiring every so many years......

My newest snag is that my laser printer decided to run out of toner today. No spare and the shaking trick didn't do much. Was hoping to have paper copies to do one final check so I'm on hold for the moment. However, Amazon says they have same day free delivery (Prime) on a new one. If so then I still may get this done today.

I use H&R Block tax program. They said the federal forms were not finalized yet and they expect a Feb 9 update.

What happens if there is change on one of the forms you used?

It's past Jan. 23rd so the season is upon us. I use the "Free Fillable Forms" link on this page:

https://www.irs.gov/uac/free-file-do-yo ... s-for-free

The forms you need are linked in so what ever is current is current. No discussion of pending changes, might just be the H&R software thing.

In any case if something turns out wrong they can contact me when they do the actual processing. Worst case I'd have to file an amended return, been there are done that before.

My tax situation is a lot simpler now a days, and I always do my own taxes. I'm honest and there is no way that I worry, even if audited as I just use the 1040 form and standard deductions. Don't do any creative or questionable things. I have no problem paying my fair share.

I'm with Ed on this one. Since I do not trade gold, silver and jewels and I do not itemize deductions my only challenge is following the instructions on the applicable forms. The new ACA Form this year was something of a challenge and then I learned I did not have to use it. I guess the government already knows that I am on Medicare and Tricare for Life and most of my income is from the US Treasury.

Nonetheless, I am thankful that it is all filed and paid.

After thought for you folks drawing SS: Just accept the fact that what SS money figures into your tax liability IS MOST LIKELY not equal to the sum of the monies that you receive each year in your SSA checks.

Submitted my taxes today. Got bounced back once as I forgot to check box 61. Yea I missed that. Fixed it and sent it off again and that time they accepted it.

Did my state taxes today, have to pay in because of the sales tax that isn't collected by some companies. I should keep track of it but I'm to lazy, I just use the tables they provide. $56 I think it was. Decided to wait until tomorrow to have a fresh look at it before submitting them.

The toner arrived at 7:10 last night, we were just about out the door for a walk when the door bell rang. That same day service is great!

"Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by February 10, 2017."

So from submission to refund of 10 days, not bad.

Got an email that our little federal refund has been deposited. Still waiting on the state.
