Here is one
Thew walnut tree was blown down in a bad storm ,estimated over 100 years old ,, the wood was cut into pices about 2ft long or so ,,,then sat around for many years ,,, the guy was burning it up in a fire pit to get rid of it,,,,, I asked for a few pieces and he said take what I wanted,,, they sat around for a year or two more in my garage waiting on their next journey in life,,,,

Then one day a good friend of my'n said he had a antique rifle ,,in fact a 1913 to be exact ,,and the stock was bad, said a new stock was out of his financial realm, ,,,,So I said ,I hadn't made a rifle stock in a few years but give me a chance ,that I had a piece of wood that needed a new mission in life ,,,,,told him the wood was nearly as old as the rifle , to be exact from what we could estimate it was with in a year or so of the age of the rifle.

That is beautiful!

I would love to do a stock on a .22 rifle I bought new in '62. Owned and hunted with it most of my life. It needs some TLC.

Would love to be able to do work like that brother ...

Thanks ,

it isn't as tough as ya think,,, in fact if you do try ,,make 2 ,,just in case the first one is a learning piece!! :)

I used the SS band saw and disc sander and a lot of filing to shape it.

The toughest part was the finish, it actually took me over 2 months , I would put a coat of oil on it and it would be dry in minutes , I would even wax it to try and seal it,,,, the wood was so old and thirsty no mater what I did it would soak it up , then one day it finally stopped soaking it up and you should see it now !!!!
