I know this is an older post but since it has come back up let me add one thought about the 2-1/2" Jointer head for the Model 10 and early Mark 5's. It was said that using the Jointer head with the Model 10's Jointer-Shaper fence was not as accurate as using a jointer, true, and that the fence plates were bendable. Anyone wishing to use the 2-1/2" Jointer head on a Model 10E or 10ER can use the Shaper fence that came out with the Mark 5 in 1953 now known as 500 table system. It fits the Model 10 tables and the original manual for it shows it in use on a Model 10. With it you will get longer in feed and out feed sides. This should have an increase in accuracy over the Model 10's Jointer-Shaper Fence. It is a much cheaper alternative to having a 4" Jointer mounted on your Model 10.
