Appalachia Tool Work Sled Review
Moderator: admin
Hi,
A person from another site has ask me about these sleds and if they are still being made. I haven't been keeping up with this but I don't recall seeing any ebay listing this spring...
I have corresponded with Rick but I was unable to find his email address... I think it might be in one of my now closed accounts and I don't have the time to dig into that right now as I'm off on a trip in the morning.
I provided a link to this thread to the person asking so I hope he stops in and maybe joins us... (If you are reading this Frank then welcome to the forum!)
So anyone have any updates?
Ed

Appalachia Sled Available
I happen to have a brand new Appalachia Tool sled, still in its original shrink wrap that is available for sale. I hope to get it on ebay in the next week or so.

I thought I would get this thread active again, as I have been in contact with the owner recently via e-mail about his sled.
How are the miter guides usually set up? Is it an easy self install? Is it normal to set up the miter guides by the manufacturer, or the purchaser so that it is trued up to his saw? Here is what I got back when asked if he could set it up for my Shopsmith.
"Yes I can set one up for your Shopsmith but I do charge an extra $20 to install the miter guides. "
What should I do? Any Recommendations?

The sled was not originally built for a ss(the ss version comes with the miter slot guides already installed).
Either the sled has never had the guides installed, or, they have been installed for something else.
IIWM, I would get it as is and (re)install the guides myself.

I still love this sled!
When I got mine the guides were installed. At the time shopsmith was the only sled that came that way.
A lot depends on how comfortable you are with cutting the sled to fit the bars. The bar to bar dimension has to be right on so the slots cut in the table bottom have to be right on.

If you feel you have the skill set then save the money. If you are not so sure then spend the $20 and let him do it. (I would lean towards having them installed despite the added cost.)

I however would prefer screwing it up myself rather than paying someone else to do so.(FWIW I am more likely to NOT screw it up since I be the one who woul;fd have to fix/tolerate that).
IIRC the SS version cost slightly more because of the pre-installed guides. BTW mine fit perfectly as received.

Can you tell us all how to contact the owner/manufacture of the sled?bcone1381 wrote:I thought I would get this thread active again, as I have been in contact with the owner recently via e-mail about his sled.

They used to be a winter project for the 'creators' and were sporadically available on e-bay. I have not seen them recently.
