When I made the poll, I wasn't able to come up with the unique areas of the country since they aren't all defined very well (or at least I wasn't able to find them...must have missed the geography class that covered what to call all the unique regions of the USA ).

Looking at the map reminds me a story that came out here in Florida. We had a secondary teacher that was teaching her students Alaska was an island like Hawaii. When asked she was insulted and said look at any map you will see it out in Pacific with Hawaii. Scarey isn't it??????


Know something scarier???? I personally know a High School teacher that has never read a book in their life. Not one book! In fact they will not read anything at all if given a choice. His wife read him is course material and he could read enough to pass a test but has never read a book. He is teaching High School Students!!!!!

And these are just a few examples of who is teaching our children.

No apologies necessary. I have never understood how some of these topics get categorized. What ever one wants to call the "midwest" isn't in the west at all.

Ed, That's just a sad commentary on the state of our public school system...

Reminds me of the story I heard (probably an urban legend)about a student arguing with a teacher on the requirement for a person being a "natural born citizen" to be eligible to run for President of the United States. She made the comment, "...I don't understand why being natural born is any better than being born cesarean..."

Tom, that is funny, but very sad. Some of the smartest people I know or knew left school by the 8th grade. Not because they wanted to, but because back then they had to. My father in law left school in the 8th grade and when he died he knew more then most of the teachers at the school. Seeing some of the teachers we have now sure makes you wonder.

There are reasons that more and more children are being taught at home. Some of those reasons have been listed here.
