FWIW Your SS runs APPROXIMATELY 5/6 as fast as it would on 60Hz. i.e. Full speed is near 4300 rpm and slow speed is near 580 rpm. There are some assumptions made there, but the point IS that it runs considerably slower. I assume the speed dial is the same on your ss as those 'over here'. For that reason I wondered if you set the speed dial higher than 'we' would for a given operation/dial nomenclature.

I have calibrated the speed with a tachometer and assume that it is correct. Many thanks for your interest

What does(did) the tach indicate at 'full' speed setting?

On maximun the tacho shows 5300

HMMMM! Aren't the pulleys variable? Maybe they are just set differently.
OR ... Maybe the belts are worn differently.

I said pulley, not sheave. I was referring to the poly v pulleys on the main and idler shaft. I be wondering if his pn's are the same as 'ours'. I do not think a 16% difference(slower) in motor speed can be overcome by belt adjustment.

When the speed is set as maximum is there a straight 1:1 ratio betwen the drive and the driven pulleys? There may be some reserve in motor speed which allows me to effectively rack up the final rpm to the same as yours? I can't believe that max speed on the machine means that the motor is running at its absolute maximum?
The simple answer would be of course that there is a gain in the ratio of drive to driven pulley sizes in the machine supplied in the UK, but I think this is unlikely. Perhaps someone at SS could answer this?
