Perhaps the 'community' branch is where most of this belongs, but then we couldn't discuss any machine related maintenance subjects there.
This thread started on shaky ground/thin ice since it was borderline selling etc. By diverting the subject away from that, it became more legitimate.
Be careful calling stuff 'gibberish'! Saying so implies lack of either understanding or tolerance, or Both! Off 'subject' Yes. Rambling? YES Gibberish? NIMHO!
It is still gibberish and has NOTHING to do with woodworking.

Whether this subject has anything to do with anything present doesn't matter to me. I see it for what it is / was. The
foundation of where we are today regarding computing and automation. Amazing what we've seen in our 'short' lifetime. Thanks for the "gibberish".

Thank You for the 'Kind' words!(Mike and Just off the Boaticus!) It really did belong in potpouri, but as I recall it started with a bunch of ones and zeros in the First Post!
Mike: There is no 'translator'(not that I know of). Not too much demand since Extended ASCII has taken over. EBCDIC was an IBM thingey that IMHO was an implement to cause dependency on them. Part of it actually makes a little sense though.
