I forgot to ask. On the headrest piece ( on the left in the upper picture ) Which side faces where? I bolted it down as it is in the picture, which is the way it is on my other machine and the way it was before, but is it backwards? The manual shows it the other way. Or does it even matter?

My motor just got in. I am almost ready to wire it in, just as soon as the paint on the motor bracket is dry. I think I am going to wire a 50' 3-prong cord on it. I really want this thing to be grounded ( when the original motor went bad, the whole machine became electrified- SHOCKING to say the least) I might pick up a new toggle switch also, as my switch is 60 years old and I don't care for the way Shopsmith ran both the hot and neutral through the switch.

when these machines were new, lots of people did not have 3-pronged receptacles. by breaking both the white and the black lines at the switch, they made sure that the hot wire was always switched off by the switch. cheater plugs of that era had the same size male plugs for both hot and neutral and it was 50/50 whether they were plugged into the socket the "right" way. the DPST switch was a good safety feature.

Well that makes sense and at the time it was a great idea. But the time has come for my machine to be grounded.

I actually learned something. I did not know that the neutral AND hot were switched.
