Yes, rants are always OKAY. Rants are nothing more than someone expressing their deep felt opinions.
OFF TOPIC is another thing. Off topic discussions are bad because they are difficult to "search for". Off topic rants are often unrelated to the title of a thread (duh, thus "off topic").

TRUE CONFESSIONS
My shop looks the worst before beginning a project. That's because I didn't clean up after the last project. During a project, my shop actually gets cleaner and more organized. That's because I have to make room to man handle the new project. But when it's finished - it is a mess again!
I always say I'm going to clean up before the next project, but that never gets done.

Thanks for that confession, charlese! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one! I just don't feel motivated to clean until I need to the space for something else.
