HAHAHA I got the diamond hone also, the first time I tried to use it. I dropped it after I stuck my finger with the skew.
As far as the Lacer skew grind. I had a 4hr demo, then the hands on class. He did say for us BEGINNERS on using the skew, to use the regular straight skew. I heard him tell someone else on the Thompson gouges, to polish the flute because there are ridges left the flute.

I to have had bad days and good days at the lathe. I have only been at it of and on for 2-3 years but I have decided that it's alot like fishing or taking pictures, some times you catch fish and/or nail the picture some times you don't. You get some good, some not so good, the ones that get away seem to be the ones you wished you would have gotten. I have also found that I'm my worst fan.
I can only say do not quit! What would you get by not trying!
I would also like to say that this form and the folks on it are just plain great!
in my case they might be to nice, for that I thank them.
Hang in there, and just make dust man!

Don't know about Red, but I never have be so tempted! One cannot even guess what can be made from scraps. Maybe that's why I have so many.

Same here! Why spend money on new material. Trouble is every once in a while I actually use a piece of 'scrap', so discarding is
never considered.
