Awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and General Staff Identification Badge (AKA The liver patch) as well as a lot of other awards, a few for galantry.
Greatest achievement: Convincing my bride to help me make the Army a career, and having three great children (and seven grandkids so far.)

President LBJ gave me a unique notice on my 20th birthday.

Enlisted in Navy May, 1968
Basic training in Great Lakes
Went to some prep schools in Millington, TN
Attached to Attack Squadron 147, homeported in NAS Lemoore, CA
Flown to Philippines to catch USS Ranger which was on line
Caught USS Neches (oiler), highlined to USS Ranger
Served in Viet Nam until June 1969.
Finally got to work as an Aviation Storekeeper (deleted rate) working with A7 aircraft. From June 1969 until Oct 1969, transitioned from A-7A/B to A-7E
Boarded USS America in Cuba with newaircraft
Became E-4 while in Viet Nam on 2nd tour from Jan to Dec 1970
Received letter of commendation from CO of USS America
Went to Korea when USS Pueblo was taken
Spent last nine mos in NAS Pensacola. Tricky Dick had his RIF and was released at 3 years, 9 mos and 17 days.
Spent 2 years more in reserves until squirrely Lt. Commander told me I had to put my two weeks active on the USS Lexington. Removed cover, laid down liberty and ID card and departed as civilian.
Worked as a government employee (not contracted) for 35 1/2 years.
