Shop building questions

You might want to consider a 'sill plate' under the joists and the outer board they are attached to(not sure what to call that). That will take the load off the nails and spread the support between the blocks.

It's called a band joist. (I had to look it up!)

A sill plate is a good idea. I'll be sure to use one.

EDIT: i just recalled I did not dimension the band joists to the same width as the floor joists. They are wider so hang down lower than the floor joists by about 1/2" or so.

The rain broke and my dad came out today and we made some great progress. Got all the walls framed and all the ceiling joists cut. He's coming back tomorrow and we should finish getting the rafters nailed down and all the tin on. Then I'll just have electricity, shelves, unpacking the storage, etc.

Since snow is not a problem here, it will run off as fast as it piles on.

It's not unusual for for Dallas to get snow and that is a lot closer to me than Amarillo. It's not unheard of for Atlanta to get snow. And I mean significant amounts. But here? We might get 1/4 inch every once per decade.
