Yeah, that is strange. Even stranger, that same chart used to have a second Shopsmith entry.
The replacement Adapter is masked with an "S" while the original one was marked with an "F".

PS: I don't know if it is something I am doing different or what BUT now I find this web page (page 7) that lists the "original chart" that shows the "IFNS" as well as the "ISNS" versions.

Wow, it amazes me how a of couple of part number letters FN vs NS in the insert/adapter part number can cause a lot of confusion. I thought this thread was over. But sure enough the web page needs to be updated.
I just figured out the IFNS I was provided to me by a reseller who told me it as the correct item for my G3 chuck. I bet he was going by the adapter listing on the web page being he is out of this country. I would say he was correct based on the information available to him.
If you do a search on the Teknatool website for ISNS which is not on the web pag adapter chart I copied and pasted below; however if you do a SEARCH, you get a link to the new catalog. Scroll to page 7, you'll see ISNS is the adapter for the G3 Chuck adapter /insert for the Shipsmith.
So it appears a simple update needs to be made by the Teknatool web people and it probably behoves all of us to look at the pic of the proper insert adapters to compare with , make just sure a 5/32 Allen wrench can be used - if not, just compare pics & contact customer service.
But Teknatool/Shipsmith need some time to validate this as Dusty definitely has the wrong item(re:his pic) received from Shopsmith several years ago which might of been a transition period- who knows. But even after 3 years Shipsmith/Teknatool stand up behind their stuff which is only marked with a 2 year warranty. I think that is fantastic.
In the meantime I look forward to see what emagnet learns. I am tired and will say good night. Lately I've been repeating myself & I apologize to you all if I've sound like a broken record. Good job emagnet!

Teknatool Adapter Chart off the Web Site:
Insert/Adaptor Listing for Nova chucks
Code Description Thread Size Lathe Match (where known)
IFNS INSERT F 5/8" Plain Bore RH Shopsmith
ITNS INSERT T 1"8 TPI Dual Threaded LH and RH Teknatool Nova Mercury Mini Lathe , Jet
There is no ISNS in the web page insert/adapter listing; hence a lot of confusion.
One Greenie, Two Mark 7s,Three 510s and much more…
Unfortunately, it's than just a website listing update. I ordered my insert on the Teknatool website just last month and the only option available was specified as a 5/8" plain bore, no mention of part number. I received an IFNF adapter. So, their online ordering system needs revision as well.

Minor correction: I bought and received my Nova G3 mid year 2011. I purchased it from Shopsmith during an email special. It was drop shipped to me from Teknatool (Florida).
When I first discussed this with Shopsmith, Linda was unaware of the ISNS. She called Teknatool to confirm what I was telling her about the grub screw being set at an angle. She then called me to let me know that Teknatool had already shipped a replacement Adapter to me.
It does seem as though a recent change has brought this all about BUT then reible reports that he has had his Adapter (pictured in this thread) for some years.
Maybe Shopsmith and Teknatool have some updating to do. No one knows just how many IFNS Adapters are being used on Shopsmith spindles today. Thankfully the spindle is tapered in the direction that it is; an Adapter is NOT going to come off of the spindle during use due to this issue.

Dusty: Ah, so there was an email special. I thought there was & I missed it! I hate it when it happens as Shopsmith does offer some good prices on new things as well as old each week. Years ago, I believe we only received 3-4 catalogs a year and I would look through them like a kid picking out what I wanted for Xmas. I used to take advantage of the discount code that would be sent whenever I ordered something within 3 days & enjoy a few extra dollar savings. But the Father's Day 2008 was the last catalog printed, I guess in an effort to save trees... <smile>
emagnet: Holy cow!
I believe there are several companies offered/offering the G3 Chuck Kit and insert/adapter for the Shopsmith like Amazon, Woodcraft, etc. in addition to Teknatool and Shopsmith. If all were dropped shipped from Teknatool that might help in ascertaining who has the G3 Chuck for the Shopsmith.
I know everyone here on the forum will be well taken care of if they are paying attention to this thread and for whatever reason have the wrong or old style Shopsmith adapter. I recently met the people there in Florida and also at Shopsmith on Poe Ave in 2008 & customer service is their #1 priority IMHO.
Good luck to all. I had sent a link of this thread to Teknatool prior to emagnet's message , so they will have the benefit of everyone's comments. This thread started off as a runout issue- I haven't even checked that out yet as my precision measurement tools are in a box somewhere in my basement. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "Doh!"
Oh, here is my tip of the week for anyone who uses silica gel desiccant in their tool boxes that I copied and pasted " When it turns pink, you can regenerate it: Heat the desiccant in a conventional oven at 250°F (121°C) for at least an hour or until the desiccant turns a dark orange/blue; or until the pink silica gel indicator turns dark blue in older units. Do not use a microwave. Cool to room temperature." This stuff lasts a long, long time.

backhertz: I received my replacement Adapter from Teknatool (Florida). He asked me where I purchased my Nova G3; he asked because my name was not on his list of owners.
He told me that if it had been on the Teknatool list I would have received the Adapter without even calling.
As I stated earlier in this thread, what I find curious is that they (Teknatool) packaged Nova G3s for Shopsmith and used the wrong Adapter. This causes me to believe that there is more to this whole story than meets the eye.
As far as I can tell, the IFNS 5/8" Plain Bore should not even be associated with Shopsmith UNLESS some of the earlier model Mark 5s did not have the tapered shaft. I'm too young to be able to comment on that. That is something for the old farts to figure out.
With regard to the catalogs: I often find myself browsing through the 2008 catalog. However, I enjoy that less now because I feel like I have to be more careful with it; it is part of the "last printing". An heirloom in the making.

I talked with Mike at TT and he was very helpful. Didn't sound like it was a major concern but just an improvement. Regardless of which adapter used, I think common sense in checking the tightening of the screw should suffice. Anyhow, he said the ISNS is the later adapter for all SS with Nova chucks. Price is $19.99 and $8.99 shipping. Agree with others as its a great company with service support but my only concern is what I've read from others on the quality control of lately. Thats sort of the norm with asian sourced products.
emagnet wrote:I have submitted a Helpdesk ticket on the Teknatool website asking them to clarify the issue. I will report their response here.
Their response was to confirm that the IFNS adapter is the correct one for the Shopsmith. No discussion, whatsoever, of the incorrect website. I will be submitting another helpdesk ticket, now that they have admitted that I purchased the wrong insert, explaining that their website and on-line ordering system gave me no choice.

Please tell me that this does not say what I think it does. The IFNS Adapter is NOT the correct one for use on a Shopsmith. Yes, it has a 5/8" bore.
The correct Adapter is an ISNS. Scroll to the bottom of page 7 for the listing.
