7 AM 8/14. (Total elapsed time since test began is 40 hours 15 minutes): Inside cooler temp is 31 degrees on the thermometer. The reported overnight low temperature was 65 degrees.

Excuse my ignorance, please. But won't the temperature remain at/near freezing until the ice is gone. :confused:

I guess maybe that is what we will learn with the results of this test. :)

You are probably right!

6:45 PM 8/14 (elapsed time 52 hours). Inside cooler thermometer is reading 32 degrees. Max outside temperature today was 84 degrees. (The beer tastes great!)

Seems to be doing exactly what you designed it for. Pretty impressive as to how much ice you have left after 50+ hours. I would call it a success! :cool:

Yes, so far so good. Considering the utter simplicity of the seal design, it is surprisingly effective! When I go to open it, there's an unmistakable vacuum on the lid that I have to overcome.

What did you wind up doing for a seal? At last mention, you were contemplating either weatherstripping in the banding groove, or maybe pouring in some rubbery stuff, IIRC.

Don’t publish if you plan to patent it! ;)

shhhhhhhh...

It fits the groove, depth and height, almost exactly.

Dusty is correct! As long as the thermometer is in contact with the frozen ice and is cooled(it is totally metallic except for the 'glass')by it, regardless of air temperature it will read 32 degrees.

What you have created is a box with minimal heat loss/gain through the walls.

I have to assume the air temperature is very close to 32 or the ice would be melting faster.

BTW I assume the ice was added after the wannigan was super cooled only. The ice was not super cooled.

Regardless I agree it is highly successful! :cool: :cool: :cool:

The ice came from the local grocery store; it was in my freezer for about 2 hours (while the beer/soda was in the fridge cooling); the cooler was in the freezer for five hours. The ice was added to cooler after both were out of the freezer.
