The object goes dark and the following menu appears:curiousgeorge wrote:Dusty,
When you have an object selected and you right click on it, what choices do you have on the menu that appears?
Entity Info
Erase
Hide
Select
Area
Intersect
Align View
Align Axes
Reverse Faces
Orient Faces
Zoom Extents
I have just noticed something else that might be significant. Remember I have Windows 2000 and I believe Sketchup wants to see XP or later. What I actually have loaded is Sketchup Pro (Expired).

Dusty,
The menu looks right, but you should be able to un-select the item by clicking outside the selected object. Maybe you have hit on something about the version you have loaded being the expired pro version. If that is the case it is at least 2 or 3 versions older than the latest and there is no telling what it should be, or is, doing. The only thing I can suggest now is to try downloading the latest version and see if that helps. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

This is the latest version that will load onto my antiquated system. I am going to have to make some decisions if I really want to utilize Sketchup.curiousgeorge wrote:Dusty,

I ordered new memory (should arrive on Tuesday), have installed a faster mother board, and am waiting for XP to load (should have it on Monday).
If this doesn't do it I may be forced to buy a new computer.
Thanks for your feedback.

Dusty give this a try:
1) creat a small cube that looks like this

2) select the whole cube, does it look like this?

3) select the move tool, move the box a bit but don't release the mouse button, now hit the "esc" key on your keyboard. The cube will snap back to the former location. Did that work?
4) the move tool is still selected and should look like this

5) pick the select tool and click somewhere off the cube but still in the work area. The cube is now unselected, screen should look like this
before click

after click

Let me know what happens.

I have attempted to do what you asked.
I created the cube.
When I selected it, it turned a dark color but is not blue. Also, the reference lines are no longer red, blue and green. They are all black.
The move (of the dark cube) worked per your description.
The cube and move symbol are displayed (thought they are dark in color).
The cube does not change back (in color) but the select symbol is gone.

Hi Dusty,
Per your screen I see you have the pro version and it has expired... I would trash that and get the latest FREE version that will work with your system.

Expired stuff might not be working right???

You are probably right, Ed. I have been resisting that because I might not be able to download what is being offered now. Version 7 is what is out there now. My system won't upload version 7.
I'll scrub my machine and go from there.
Thanks for giving this your time and attention.
If it works I'll post results.

Dusty take a look here:
http://www.download.com/Google-SketchUp/3000-6677_4-10257337.html?cdlPid=10979109
it show that 2000 should work with V7.
Maybe you need to give it another try? You can also get previous versions here.

Well, I guess I should have been content with what I had. After scrubbing and trying to reload I find that I cannot get any version of Sketchup back onto my machine.
Now I just have to get upgraded or give up on Sketchup.
Thank you all for your efforts.
