Well, I thought I was done, but when I went to the B tab for dimensioning, I didn't have rails, just the end profiles. So, I closed it without savings. Will have to give it another shot at a later date. I'm not sure, but I forgot to group the panel, then when I remembered I had fogotten, I then did it. But, I forgot to re-hide the rail and stile. So, in grouping the panel, I must have had portions of the rails, I guess.

Hey Pat, that happens to me all the time. I get ahead of myself and forget to do the correct steps and end up screwing up the other scenes. have to go back and erase all the overdrawings in them and redo them the correct way. takes me a while to get drawings done, but when they are done, they sure look good.

OK, this is my 4th attempt. Really having issues with the rail portion of this. 1st shot is with all layers showing.

Next shot is with layer A turned off, so I should see just the rail. This is what I'm seeing.

Where did the faces go? If I only have layer A on, I don't see anything related to the rail on layer B.

I'm am totally frustrated and haven't got a clue as to what I might be doing wrong.

Pat, I think you failed to ungroup the stile that you copied to be a rail after making it and shortening it. If it disappears when you turn on Layer A only, click on the ASSY view to turn on all layers and then click on one of those surfaces, look at Entity Info window and see what layer those surfaces are assigned to. Watch the video, it should show all the detailed steps.

I just started your class yesterday. And wow you are a great instructor. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this application in a way I can understand. Some of the other intructions got me so over whelmed that I stopped trying. You have lit the spark. Do you use Cutlist and if so will you also show us how to get it to work. I downloaded it and tried several things. It is in my plugins menu. Any way I am not looking for it now, continue what you are doing. Lovin' it man. thank you

Jim, yes I do use CutList, ALLOT... and I do plan on covering it in a future lesson, but I've found a number of things done during the construction of a model that greatly effects the performance and outcome of CutList. I want to cover those topics first, so that the users can hit the ground running and not go through the learning curve I had to. 2 big things that need to be covered that effect CutList are User Defined Axes (which we've touched on already) and Fills. After I cover Fills, we can cover CutList.

I must admit that I can build a Raised Panel door faster than I can draw one at this point. I will get better though. Come to thank of it, it took me a long time to build my first also.

This was a real learning lesson. Thanks to Tom for helping me out. I was having the same problem as shydragon. As in any new endeavor the more you do the better understanding you achieve. I will go back and run through this lesson a couple more times this week.

Tom gave me a work around for the problem. So all is good for now. I wonder if the operating system makes any difference? I'm running Vista Professional.
