Wood working has been most difficult the last few days. Wednesday morning we arrived home from a walk and discovered the street filled with emergency vehicles. The sad news that a 32 year old neighbor man had taken his own life. This fellow was a contractor who lost much of the last couple of years. His business was only the first, he had two personal relationships end and what seemed to be an endless number of issues with renters in his home who failed to pay rent. He was much loved by all neighbors and a talented athlete. Our prayers go out to his circle of friends and especially to his loving family. I pray that our new year can bring jobs, new opportunities for all and a greatly improved economy. Jim

Not much else I can say

Me of course... Diana had a Dr. appointment this morning and we also went to the library. I grabbed 4 setting up a woodshop type books as I ofthen do and while she was dealing with another bunch of Dr. office and pharmacy crap I was in the van looking through the books. They were chock full of good ideas and I am always looking for ideas to steal.
I was thinking that I should copy some of the pages and hang on to them until I get things sat up. Then my dim mind said to me: "you don't want to do that, it will use up way to much ink..." A few minutes later as I hit upon another good one the thought hit me... YOU IDIOT, JUST SCAN THEM AND STICK THEM ON A FLASH DRIVE. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PRINT THEM OUT!!!
Do you ever have times when you wonder how you get through each day without a keeper?

"times"? I seem to wonder that EVERY DAY! LOL.

So much for the warm weather. We woke up this morning to 19-F with a high of 30 and a low tonight around 14-F. There will be no making of the sawdust today out in my uninsulated barn!! Wouldn't be so bad if the wind wasn't blowing at 20MPH. I don't EVEN want to know what the wind chill factor is. In fact, we had a dusting of snow. This was the view out the dining room window this morning.

Well, finished my last Christmas gift today. My brother is an over-the-road trucker and wasn't home for Christmas so there wasn't the same deadline. Then my Dad turned gravely ill and he's in town for a few days to help with that, so I had to go out and finish it, even though the shop was about 45-degrees. Actually, I had to go out and build a little slanted shelf to help with Dad's dialysis, but as long as I'm in the shop ....

This is the first time I've set the 510 up to use as a lathe.

It was cold, but fun. Any time in the shop is good time.

Nice and very useful to an over the road trucker.

I did think about going to the shop today to do some clean up and putting some things away, but then I looked at my digital temperature gauge that lets me know the shop temperature, 42 degrees is just to cold.... It is now 18 degrees outside, forecast is for 6 tonight.... Yea it is winter again in IL.

It has been 18° here today too with winds gusting to 30 MPH. The old shop with a tiny hardwired baseboard heater running is holding at 46°.
The new basement shop got up to 80° and I finally had to cap the wood furnace duct that feeds the shop room completely... Still too hot but sure beats the farm shop which is usually colder than the outside temps.
