Still ANOTHER learning experience. This sled may never get finished but I'll not quit trying.

It is just a good thing that I don't really need it.

This time I failed to clamp everything securely and the project moved under the pattern. I usually use a couple pieces of two sided tape ot a couple brad nails to prevent this from happening. Not this time. I get to try still again.

It is also a good thing that I am using scraps and cutoffs. If I was cutting up good wood it would have already become cost prohibitive.

A sled. Anti tip washers. A mount for the blank. Runners for the sled.

What is wrong with the fence set to the 'correct' distance from the blade(so it matches the kerf first cut), positioning the insert towards the front of the table,(all this after putting a 'regular' blade insert back in the table), clamping the new insert so it stays flush with the table and fence, and finally again lowering the table to extend the first cut?


Or do I mis-understand the 'objective'???

I suppose that is essentially what I have been doing for twenty years and I decided that, with a little bit of extra work, there was a safer and more accurate way to do this.

The beauty of this forum is that you get to criticize anything you want or ignore it all together.

Besides that - there were a few lessons that I needed on use of the plunge router.

Sled is not quit done. Still need the proper ZCI hold downs.

PS: Viewing this post I now realize that I don't need to lower the table that far to cut the insert. I can simply adjust the slide stops (on the sled) to get the right length kerf. Having that much blade above the table always bothers me.

These are the hold downs that I decided to use. They have been in the grab box for a long time. Don't know why they haven't been used before.

Looks good to me!]have[/B] this it is a no-brainer to decide to use it.

Is it necessary? Probably not but it IS a better way to cut them.

As seldom as I have made them, it would be overkill for me, but those who do this often should give this serious consideration.

Now that you are all set up, I may need to place an order for some ZCI's That is, as soon as I get a table they will fit. Still waiting on the new Shopsmith. I may even have a space carved out for it by the time it arrives.

Not having a 510/520 or that that splitter type, this thread is currently a non-issue for me. If I ever get a 510/520 table I'll know what to do for ZCI creation.

Are you still waiting for your PowerPro or have you been busy making saw dust with it?

Still waiting:( I called last week and they said there was an issue in them getting their tubes order) Hopefully they will have it sorted out and I will be getting some good news this week.

While some are neglected, the squeaky wheel almost always gets greased.

I would remain in regular contact with either Jan or Linda and ask for a forecast date! They seem most likely to be there for the morning shifts. It seems others take over for afternoon and evening.

I'll give them another call tomorrow. I thought about calling them today but it was a "holiday" for some folks. I will ask for Jan or Linda this time. Maybe they can give me some credible information.
