I have found this discussion interesting. You may remember my comment about not receiving 1099's and the grief we are having getting them. To date all but one has arrived. The company involved in that one has an employee who refuses to answer the phone. The taxes are ready to be filed, all we need is one 1099. Jim

Finally got it, holding on to it to have some plumbing done in an old bathroom. Will be bringing it up to standards. Going to enjoy that in my old age. When we had the old house totally rewired a few years ago, it was like having a new house. Had to figure it all out again.

On the 1099, I think you can go to IRS and request a copy. The employer is supposed to have filed a copy of 1099 with IRS. If not, they will give you a website in which you can retrieve it. Did that for my son because the US Army couldn't get the address right.

Electronically filed by accountant.
State--owe (amazing how that works e-v-e-r-y year)
Fed--modest return, unfortunatley paying off some dr bills from last year but enough left to get my hammered green paint and belts for my greenie. :D

I have finally completed my taxes. The bad news is minimal. I only owe $56.

I have finally straightened out my withholding.

Tax Preperation

Post by berry »

We typically wait until the last possible monument, because it's one of out least favorite duties. Working on taxes is kinda like going for a colonoscopy. Heck I could get run over by a bus before the middle of April. And if I had spent a couple of days working on taxes instead of working in the shop I'd be forever mad at myself.

There a restaurant we sometimes go to that's across the street from the main post office here. They have a special deal (like Happy Hour) for those who mail them and then come in for dinner. I know were not the only ones who put it off because that place is always busy on filing day.

Electronically filled mine today. Just hate to pay the Feds money they will keep all year and give back to me (without interest) after filling.

Ha! Ha! overpaid the Feds $1.00. Yes they will send the refund.

Did you see the latest Washington D.C. scandal? Seems the Govt accounting bunch used my money to hold a big party in Las Vegas. (they called it a meeting) Cost several 100 thousand bucks! Resulted in firing of the Administer and a few others, but what about all those taking part in the party? Shouldn't I get a refund from them? They are still hired -as civil servants - and their code of ethics should have told them better. However I'm afraid they have already learned bad habits from this fiasco.

We filed really early - State and Fed refunds already spent and ancient history. I was able to convince SWMBO to apportion some of the refund for a new Freud 10" multi purpose blade, 2 cheapie 10" cutoff blades from HD, a new shorpsmith Pen Mandrel, a mandrel saver, bushing set, and a rollerball pen kit.

So - I think I did pretty well :)
