So, the reason I check the Buffalo CL ads from Maryland is my in-laws live there and I actually will be in Buffalo in a couple of weeks for X-mas. If the ad is still up I might go have a look.

So, you 10E/ER guys, what should I pay attention to as I look over this machine? What is "missing" in the few photos? What are the "show-stoppers" that I should be on the look out for?

I'm really hoping it's gone by the time I get there because if I get there and want it, my wife will kill me and I don't have room in my shop.

Maybe I can convince by b-i-l who is a woodworker that he "needs it" and then I can play with it when I visit.

I'd like to see what's in that bucket under the machine. But it looks like the miter gauge is the only major piece missing from the photos.

If the speed changer casting and the jointer mounting bracket are good/unbroken, it's a steal a that price. I'd plan on replacing all the bearings anyway, so they don't really matter. Also, I found out the hard way that replacing damaged pulleys is a bit expensive.

As for shop space, you could probably sell the jointer, and still have a very cool wall-mount drill press for free.

Drives me crazy. Unresponsive craigslist sellers. Probably sold the item long ago but never pulled the ad.

Does this happen to you?

I haven't had much problem getting responses. Once I did call a guy, only to find that he had already sold the item. He was very apologetic that he had forgotten to pull the ad, and said that was actually a pet peeve of his own!

But I don't respond to ads that have no photos, or are really badly written. I've found that the folks that post good ads are usually a pleasure to meet and to deal with.

I had one a couple years back on CL, a Delta mortizer, talk to the guy on Sat am, bought it over the phone, guy sounded nice, gentlemans agreement, and I would pick it up Monday evening, I get there, no one answers the door, call, get the VM, I am not a patient person when it comes to wasting my time, but I for some reason left a nice message, glad I did. Poor guy was walking his dog Sunday evening, gest nailed by a truck crossing the street, massive head injuries, wife called me on Wednesday told me about it, got the mortizer a week later, stayed in contact with them, had to go to a brain rehap facility, could not talk and most motor functions took a month to get back.
