Thank you, I finally know how this thing is supposed to go on. It is interesting that the instructions never talk about the spring clip and from the instructions provided it looks like you can add the guard without access to the back which means there must be some casting to hold the spring clips in place that I don't have.

I received a manual with a parts breakdown with my DIY PowerPro kit.
Dusty has given you the information from the PowerPro parts breakdown in his previous posts. Button head screws (1/4-20x5/8), flat washers and spring nuts. No self tapping screws specified............

They exist(as well as much larger ones).

The Shopsmith
instruction sheet clearly states that the holes are threaded along with giving you Shopsmith part numbers.
Note: from instruction sheet paragraph 5:
thread the Button Head Screw(516027) with Washer (120392) into the uppermost threaded mounting hole
However, you are NOT installing this hub cover on a modern day headstock. Your headstock (thus belt cover) is not going to have predrilled and pretapped holes. The hub cover is an add on part which came about later to satisfy Canadian safety requirements. Now the instruction sheet does not tell you that you will have to locate and drill those holes yourself but you will.
PS:
My error! The spring nuts that I referred to earlier are not for the screws that hold the hub cover on. Those spring nuts are for the vent plate mounting screws. However, the correct size spring nuts would work here as well.

I don't know why you received such abuse from the forum on this question. Usually people on the forum fall all over themselves trying to help. In this case it seemed like most wanted to take a cheap shot at you for asking the question.
I read over the instructions you received and I agree they stink! They are for people that have New Headstock which apparently has holes drilled and tapped. Since you are adding or upgrading the instructions are useless.
I see Shopsmith slipping back to it 510 ways where quality control and quality itself just didn't exist. Since the release of the 520 quality and quality control greatly improved but now it is seems like it is slipping. In your case the instructions are worthless and that is totally unacceptable.
I would have loved to answered your questions but I didn't have the guard so I just didn't know the answer. It seemed like a whole lot of people wanted to answer your question but they didn't know what they were talking about so to cover their lack of knowledge they tried to turn the problem back on you.
Shopsmith needs to put together an upgrade kit which includes the guard, and all needed hardware along with instructions on how to install it.
Until they do, the problem is not yours but Shopsmith's and I fail to understand the reaction you got to your question. I think more than one smart butt responder needs to offer an apology and a change of attitude.
If you were a new guy on the forum and got some of those responses I'm sure you would never be back to the forum and that is just wrong.

As for the instructions, they are complete and accurate. All you have to do is read them without bias. If he needs to drill holes, I think he knows how to do that without detailed instructions from Shopsmith.

I have a 510 and I find it to be top quality; it must be, it has been working correctly for me all these years and the only "repair" has been to replace a worn drive belt. Poor quality equipment does not perform that way.

1. Paul had no instruction sheet to refer to when trying to order parts, so he had no way to even know screws/washers were relevant.
2. A simple 'what are the screws etc.' question was asked once he determined he had none and needed them .
3. Despite some confusion as to hole location the quest continued.
4. It seems the ones trying to be most 'helpful' were ones without first hand knowledge of the hardware and were asking questions in an effort to narrow things down.
5. Along comes JASB and posts an amazon page of a non-relevant screw.
6. After a request to a responder who implied they had the hardware(although probably installed and unlikely to relish disassembly)for a pix, JASB posted pix of more irrelevant hardware including item not part of the question.
7. After it being pointed out that Paul did a PP DIY upgrade(thus did not get the guard/instructions) suddenly posts included the instructions.(Someone must have sent him one - Kudos to someone)
8. At this point the original question was answered albeit with some threaded hole/self threading screw confusion.
9. The thread/pitch was determined with a call to SS CS.(so much for US being informative). At least one of the two screws.
10. Now the journey seems complete and Paul can now proceed; but really not all is well that has ended well.
11. A whole lot of confusion would have been eliminated if a couple of tangents had not been traversed.
12. I be the last to throw stones regarding sometimes off subject carousing, but in this case it became excessive.
13. Last but not least let us ALL learn from it!:)
P.S. SS CS is not blameless. When Paul ordered the guard all this would have been eliminated by a logical question as to whether he also needed the mounting hardware. Instructions for piecemeal acquisitions are probably 'not available'(although they could/should be).
P.P,S. Not sure I agree the instructions are horrible. However they could be better!(5/23?)(email for help?)

I agree(after the fact) that one was relevant. However I do not recall(risky endeavor at best) that the thread /size had been determined at that point(at least not by me). Review may establish reality.
My 'attitude' regarding the amazon posts was that they were not of the OEM part in question. Granted they are probably a viable substitute. I guess I was not ready to give up on finding out the SS part info and pursue alternate sourcing.
