Hi,
The wood was drilled with a Kreg bit which you can buy without the rest of the setup and works well when you don't want to do a two step process, that being the counter bore and hole. This type of bit is called a step drill in case anyone was wondering.
If you don't want to invest in the bit then you will need to drill the counter bore using any bit which yields a flat bottom hole and then follow up with a bit that is the size of the screw you plan to use. Kreg screws are good for this type of construction, in fact they are made for it.
The wood parts are attached to the plastic using this type of screw. I should also recommend that the screws be put in by hand... a power driver could be a little too much and crack the wood or strip out of the plastic. Leave the gorilla in the cage to do this operation.
