Shydragon I am running regular Windows Vista myself. Tom also helped me with a work around but then I could not get the flip along function to work so I went back to using a combination of hide and layers. I have played around with it some more and have not figured it out. The best I can tell the intersect function is not working properly when merging the rail components into a group. Everything seems to be fine up until that point.

That may be the problem guys.... in order to do that intersect correctly, you can NOT intersect "into a group". The Rail group MUST BE EXPLODED before doing the intersect.

Also, FWIW with the OS thing, I've got 2 computers here that I'm working with (networked). One is Vista Pro, the other is Vista Pro(64).

When we bring in the rail coping component, we explode that, then push/pull it. Then we explode the rail/stile. So everything should be ungrouped when we select all for the intersect, correct? Or is there another step that we missed?

I didn't have any problem with the flip of the rail. I'm finally back to where I was several days ago, only now everything is on their proper layers. So, I'm ready to start dimensioning, which is what I was doing when I noticed the problem of all parts of the rail not being on Layer B.

Hi Tom - I wish to thank you for all of your effort in presenting this SKP 101 Course! If others appreciate your work as much as I - You are certainly greatly appreciated.

I have been through the first three lessons three times and have had every problem in learning that have been mentioned here. It is now finished - the extra lessons have helped in my slow learning.

I have two questions:
1) How do I get the "Assy" feature to show on the scene bar?

2) The little box that shows the typed dimensions has disappeared, How can I get that back.

Did you download, Tom's template and use it on all tutorials?

No I did not! I made my own template, piece by piece. Copied Tom's A-, A Text, B- etc. for layers - For Scenes, they are just Scene 1, Scene 2, etc.

This method worked well, but I never could figure out where the "Assy" cane from.

Also troubling is the fact that there used to be a small area at the lower right corner of the screen where the typed in numbers of dimensions could be seen. That small rectangular area has now disappeared. Don't know how to get it back! All sizes and push/pulls work without that area, but it is nice to see that the proper numbers have been typed.

I now have downloaded that template and loaded it as a choice for future drawings. Maybe I'll do the stool for a 4th time. It gets easier each time, as procedures are remembered.

Chuck I have a mystery with the box as well. When I first started using Sketchup it was on the right side. Now it is on the left. I don't know what is going on but I hope it does not vanish as yours did.

Charlese, the Assy tab is just another scene I created that has all the "geometry" layers and the "hardware" layer turned on and all associated "text" layers turned off, for quickly seeing the whole model cleanly.

As Mark said, he's had trouble with the measurements window too. I haven't seen this myself, but will try to find an answer for it. Just out of curiosity, since you don't actually type into the window (it's display only) you can still type in distances correctly, can't you?

I just found THIS on a web search. Does this fix work?

Another thing I just found... in the menu at the top, choose View and Toolbars. Click on Measurements. It should create a Measurements toolbar that can be floating like the Entity Window, etc... When I did that, the measurements box in the lower right corner disapeared. Turning the Measurements toolbar back off brought back the box in the lower right corner. Try cycling that setting once and see if your box comes back.
