Never answered your question re: the raised nub. It is simply that. Just a raised nub. Nothing behind, nothing inside.

I tried to use my old Craftsman the other day, but decided it was just unusable with the Auto Height Adjust feature. It's gotten so it will not hold on to a bit at all. It gradually slides out of the collet while working. She had asked me a while back to give her a list of woodworking tools - within reasonable prices - that I needed. So I mentioned to her the other day to add a router to the list. She's been preparing her "Black Friday" shopping and showed me the Ryobi R163K in the Home Depot's ad and asked me if it was a good buy. At $60, the price is certainly better than a Porter Cable, but I know next to nothing about routers or the Ryobi brand. (That old Craftsman is the only one I've ever used and that has been very minimal.) So what do you experts say? Is this a good router for this price range?

Below is the link to the router on Home Depot's web site. I did read the reviews there and it has some very good ones. The price from the "Black Friday" ad seems to be the regular price.

1/4" based on Ryobi site. Notice HD indicates only a 1 ft. cord?? Ryobi says 10 feet.

The reviews on HD's site also mention it being bundled with a straight guide and some router bits, but there's no mention of that otherwise.

And much like Mike, I don't really know yet how or how often I would be using it.

Here's an HF 1-1/2 hp 1/4" plunge that's going for $49.99 with coupon.

I just don't know how much I would trust Harbor Freight for power tools. I'm not a Harbor Freight snob or anything, but they are what they are.
