Well, it isn't really warm out, but without a strong wind, and with the doors shut and plenty of sunshine, the old barn is tolerable for about 3-4 hours. So, I worked a bit further on a birthday gift for the eldest daughter, glueing up the panels, and then cleaned up the mess from planing all that walnut and turning the tire thumper. Oh yeah, and gave the cat some attention (because I really had no choice.) But the sun hits the treetops about 4PM and the temp really starts to drop in a hurry, so it was time to come in and think about things for awhile.

Our temperature is in the mid 50's today. The shop remains at 65 degrees 24 7. The big news here being that the last five Christmas presents are officially complete. Monday I will mail two maple bowls to my oldest daughters. A third bowl was actually intended as a Birthday gift for my wife's oldest sister. Then there a pair of Cherry, saw handle canes that after some eight weeks are finally complete. One is selfishly a gift for myself and the other for a good friend who felt he desired one. I confess to feeling a bit like a peacock as we walked around the lake this morning. Wouldn't you know we didn't see one person we knew. I suppose that is they way it should be when one tries to show off. Most of today has been invested in a bit of deep cleaning in the shop. This process will likely last a week and is long overdo. This evening will be spent watching all of the Bronco, "Tebowing." Jim

Would you mind posting a thread with the saw handle canes. I did one for my father-in-law some years back. Love to see how yours came out. Mine was done pretty much with a router and is one piece, I'm thinking yours is at least partially turned???

No turning on mine. All was shaped by hand. Several years ago I purchased one at an auction with the idea of using it as a template. In final analysis after using it myself for awhile I elected to make several changes to make the new ones easier and more comfortable to use. I considered turning on the lathe and couldn't seem to get my mind around the concept. I hate posting pictures of projects. In that you asked I will post one. It may take a day or two. Jim

We decided to make a trip to Palo Duro Canyon State Park yesterday afteroon....the only place we could think of we could walk around and be able to get out of the wind. Temp was in the mid-60s, but the wind was probably a steady 25mph with gusts approaching 40.
As we were leaving the park, just at the exit, I decided to pull over and take a few shots of the resident longhorns. We discovered that it was not only time for the longhorns to get an afternoon drink, but the bluebirds as well. There were over 20 of the bluebirds hanging around. We usually see one or two....never this many in one location before.

I love to see how others have done a saw cane. If you don't mind I do have another question, how thick is the grip? On mine it is 7/8" thick, this seemed to feel better in my hand then thinner material. I have though to going even thicker, ie 1" but haven't built a second model.
