Brace yourself. Here comes some double talk. Having an Adapter stamped with a "F" apparently doesn't mean you have the wrong Adapter. Check the photo images that reible posted (this thread). His Adapter is stamped with an "F" and his is correct.

Ah, good reminder. I'll recheck the images. It is an "F" (remains to be seen what that stands for, iykwim) so all I need to check, else, is the slope of the tap, methinks. I almost hope it isn't the right one (but only almost) 'cause the S model looks so much beefier, and then there's that extra allen wrench thing...

If you look at this list, it doesn't look like the insert letters correlate to anything other than they ran out of numbers and went to the alphabet.

If you read the Nova letter on the link above, it seems that anyone who was provided a F-type adapter was complimentary provided an S-type adapter which will "ensure the best possible fit, chuck accuracy, and safety." The word safety always draws my attention. I know Dusty was missed, but he has the S-type adapter now after a phone call. This entire thread began about an accuracy or run out issue- interesting. I thought this thread had sort of migrated off subject, but it hasn't according to the Nova letter as it addresses accuracy.

I click on US dealers and there are a number except Shopsmith isn't on the list as a Nova dealer. But then Shopsmith sells the Shopsmith or products of other companies made to Shopsmith specs like the Incra products and the newest is Teknatool, I believe. Teknatool also manufactures the DVR motor used in the Shopsmith PowerPro upgrade & it has really made the Shopsmith a more powerful & energy efficient woodworking tool which was essentially a cut and paste from one good tool to another to create something better. I think that is called synergy.

I note the letter has the old Teknatool address in Florida whereas the new catalog reflects the new address on 34th Street. The new catalog makes no mention of the F-type adapter yet they are some still floating out there and people like myself a couple of weeks ago got one even after I specified an adapter for a Shopsmith. I'm confident it will be all sorted out.

I looked through the web site and found something really cool one of the other members had mentioned to me: the Teknatool Ornamental Turner which shows sold out status. :( http://www.teknatool.com/products/Speci ... mental.htm

What a cool tool, but I do not believe it was ever adapted for the Shopsmith. The only thing close to it I've ever seen is a pic Bill Mayo posted of his Brownie he modified as a machine lathe. I would love to have something like that sits on the way tubes and permits simple machining operations. But first I want to start turning some wood.

Well, the web site is back up and the fns and sns adapters are both listed. Found I have the skinny "F" with the metric (small) allen screw. I'm gonna re-read the general confusion on this thread to verify, but so far I think I need to get a replacement adapter-- "S" for "F"-- and that will take care of all safety and accuracy issues.
Sound right?

This has been a huge help. I'm right now so afraid to use this thing it has made it one of the safest tools in the shop- in the box.

Because the Mark V shaft is tapered, I do not believe that there is a huge safety issue. I have not done a lot of turning but I have used the Nova G3 several uneventful times without the new Adapter.

Anyone who calls to obtain an adapter needs to be very specific because part of the Teknatool web site still does not reflect the "S" version and lists the Shopsmith version as an "F".

Okey dokey. I believe I will call them tomorrow, and I'll be sure to keep the distinction of the Shopsmith big fat "S" version.

And, that you've used it safely is something of a comfort.

I just realized that some of my hesitation may well be paranoid, leftover from having that saw blade go free-wheelin on me a ways back (after the Power Agitator Pro loosened up its {Proper} set screw). [I guess that's also why all my 5/32 allen wrenches are bent now, come to think on it.] And then the Band Saw crash.
Oh well.
And speakin of gettin back in touch with my hand tools...

Got a response from Teknatool about the inserts. They stated that the ISNS adapter is the new and improved version for the Shopsmith and that their website and online ordering system did not reflect that. They have issued a request to the Teknatool web team that that be changed so that future online orders will be correct. They are also sending me an ISNS adapater. Good on 'em.

Shopsmith Customer Service (Jan) was as much help as was Teknatool.

I didn't use a phone number or an e-mail address to communicate with them, at least initially. I submitted a Helpdesk request through their website. Go to teknatool.com and click on customer support. Where it says "For other inquiries", click on "CLICK HERE" to submit a Helpdesk request. This creates an official helpdesk ticket with an e-paper trail that customer support is required to address and resolve.
