These were completed on Christmas Eve.
Well actually, the 22nd, but since we celebrated on the the 23rd due to opposing family and travel schedules, it was Christmas eve.

Husband and wife pens for my daughter and son in law. The material for the custom center bands was taken for the other blanks(s).

Son in law's is stabilized spalted cross cut maple with a custom pink ivory band. on black chrome hardware.

Hers is pink ivory with a custom spalted maple center band. on black chrome hardware.

This one is for my youngest son.
Oak with a walnut center band on gold hardware.

These were done for Christmas, just hadn't posted the pics. They were for my "prize" as I call her. She's obsessed with Zebrawood and she always seems to poke her head out into the garage when I work on something top secret, so it was hard to get them done without her seeing them.

And here is the cutting board I made for my "in-laws".

I had troubles planing the curly maple. The board seemed flat and planed well at first. Then after I cut it and doweled it together, I cut it down to planer size and ran it through again. It wasn't feeding through well and was giving me snipe issues. I halted production and took it to the hardwood supplier. He ran it through his commercial planer and it came out pretty good. Apparently where the board wasn't perfectly flat in the first place, and then cutting and gluing it together enhanced the "unflatness". I realize some of these technical terms I'm using may be over some heads here, but we need to work with it.

Nice work, mrHart. I think curly maple is among the nicest woods on the planet.

I am headed off to a family gathering this weekend and these will all find new homes.

They are made from an old Western Red Cedar fence board that I rescued from the roadside many years ago.

Those are excellent gift ideas and will be enjoyed by the family for many years...great heirlooms.
