In machine shop speak, ways are what sliding parts um well slide on. the shopsmith sliding parts slide on tubes aka pipes.
Lengthy posts are NOT a problem. I recommend thee stay from any posts by a creature whom refers to itself as "farmer". 'It' also has an authorship issue.
As for the motor it likely was machine tool gray at birth.
'Bits and Bobs seemed sorta British isle ish to me.
On forum 'maintenance and repair' look for "new thread".
