I do have the dado insert for the Mark V and did not really care for it. I'll probably make a few zci's as well. What do most of you use for material? Hard board or plywood?

I used some 1/4" plywood that I had leftover from a project. You may want to consider making one for each of the blades you have. They can vary slightly. One size generally does not fit all.Mark the underside of the insert with the blade that it should be used with.

Good idea... Can you get MDF that thin or do I resaw it or route a channel on the bottom?
Thanks

I make mine using 1/2" MDF or 1/2" baltic birch plywood.
When making a table insert, I consider it important that it comes out even with the table surface. I strive to make them very, very close.
The cut out is approximately 1/4" deep but not exactly and this may change "slightly" from table to table.

I just read the entire thread.. Glad the M7 is OK and you're enjoying it!
When I saw the title of the thread I thought it meant Shopsmith announced a new PowerPro! I was stoked, but then dismayed when I considered that I just upgraded my MKV to the "old" PowerPro in October... Guess I don't have to worry anymore.
Dusty, thanks for posting your SketchUp of the table insert. Your attention to detail and prowess with SketchUp amaze me.

A little advice. DO NOT play with Sketchup unless you have time. It is habit forming and there is so much that it can do.
If interested, I suggest a set of DVDs called Sketchup for Woodworkers by Robert W. Lang.
