Beautiful job!!!

I never been to the MS since she has not wanted to Beam Me Up to it, but I hope they print out some of the restoration pics here and have a Wall of Fame for them.

When I was restoring cars I had a double Shaft grinder stand I built, I took the stones off and went to the local chrome shop and aquire several of his used and worn down to about 10" diameter buffs, to small for his use and got two sets, one for finish buffing and 1 set for coarse or initial buffing. I buy my stick compound from a hardware store, black for initial quick cut and red for finish buffing on aluminum. I think the small buff discs you can buy at Menards are too small to really do a good job. Anybody can do a good job of polishing with a similar set up.Here are a couple of pictures, quality not that good, but you can see my set up. I use 3 finish buffs and 4 coarse buffs.Hope this helps.

Today I traded this '57 Greenie that I just updated for the 1954 that I restored back in the 80's, to my friend that I sold the '54 SS to. Larry was the 2nd or 3rd owner of this '57 Greenie, He got it from his Father In Law, when he saw his old Greenie after I finished restoring/upgrading it, he said "I have to have this back, this was my first Shopsmith and have lots of sentimentality for it." So we traded the 54 in his possession and some cash and he is now the proud owner of this Restored/ Updated Greenie.

Couldn't have gone to a better home!

Well the "54 I took in trade is gone also, my Brother who originally wanted this '57 Greenie, then changed his mind, took the '54. I swap them tomorrow. Happy with the swap/money that changed hands. If I had brought this '54 home I would have up graded it to a 2 bearing quill, but that runs close to $400.00 to update on a Greenie, then I would need $700.00 to come out ahead. So I am happy, BUT, I know were another Greenie is and the guy that has it doesn't use it any more.......HMMMMM!

Looks awesome! I have just inherited my fathers greenie (57) that was passed down from his father and I am doing a complete restoration also. I do not have a sand blaster so I am grinding my elbow grease to get rid of this rust. 2 days into it and found that it is a lot of sanding and polishing. I am mainly using a sandpaper wheel on a 1hp Craftsman grinder. Got the castor assembly all sanded and buffed. I used the original castors for the retro look and because I have an unfinished garage floor I am sure it felt good to have it done. Soon....soon I will be in the same boat. Welcome to the forum.

No clue This is pretty much the first ever restoration job machine wise. So I am green behind the ears when it comes down to it. I rebuild pianos but that really doesn't come into play here. Lol. Looks like I have a little homework. Thanks for the input and its good to be a part of the forum!
