Gas Prices

Most of the large oil companies have posted their 1st quarter profits. Guess what they all increased to almost obscene levels.

We have become a nation of sheep that are making the rich richer and haven't learned that price can be controlled by demand. If we stop buying gas the price will come down. Instead we say alternate energy is too costly and pay the piper just like the piper expected us to do.

Imagine what the oil companies would do if everyone stopped buying gas. They can't have profits if they don't sell it. Perhaps it would cost us a change of life style but wouldn't it be fun to tell the oil companies and OPEC to kiss our ___?

From what I heard on the radio, Indiana has the seventh highest prices nationally. And we're driving less?

My mom had a Buick Century 6cyl she just traded off. She got 32 MPG. She got a new Chevy Malibu 4cyl. She only gets 22MPG with it. ????????

Proof they can make a 6cyl car with great mileage.

My 2000 Buick LeSabre gets 26 in town and 34 on the road while my daughters 4 cylinder Sebring gets 24 in town and 28 on the road. That's why we drive an 11 year old car.

Last night, Thursday, a new Murphy station opened about 1 block from a Citgo station in Pace, FL. The Murphy opened with $3.75 per gallon regular. The Citgo station manager saw the sign and changed hers to $3. 74 per gallon. The gas war started and went on until midnight, changing prices as fast as they could and folks drove for miles to take advantage of prices that fell to $3.55 per gallon. This morning, the Citgo was back up to $3.75 per gallon and Murphy went until now with $3.55 per gallon. So, who lost money? And, they would have us believe they only profit about a nickel a gallon. Give me a break! Just thought you would find this interesting.

I read somewhere that Citgo is owned by Hugo Chavez, the Venezulian (not sure about the spelling) dictator?????

Citgo's parent company is Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA). So, you're right, Citgo is owned by Hugo Chavez.

Most people I see are still driving like gas is still $1 a gallon... Driving the speed limit on I-465 around Indy makes you feel like a snail in the middle of a buffalo stampede...
People are really funny. I am watching the Mini-marathon in Indy on TV. Something like 35,000 runners. I know of "runners" that will still drive around WalMarts parking lot 4 or 5 times trying to park 6 parking spaces closer to the door...

Back about 1959 we drove a 1952 Ford Country Sedan station wagon from here (Central Indiana) to California (San Diego) and back. It had the standard flat-head V8, 3 speed with an overdrive. We had it loaded with stuff and it had a canvas enclosed top carrier with a second bar type carrier behind that with a tent in a big bag lashed down to it. Not very aerodynamic...

To its advantage it did have a vacuum gauge mounted on top of the dash in the lower left corner of the windshield. Our highway mileage ran a consistent 25 MPG running from 55 MPH to 70 MPH depending on the road... Maybe we haven't come so far after all.
