I learned a lot from the comments made to this thread and I think I have an answer to the basic question that started the thread.
Can the Band Saw Be Quieted?
The answer is dependent upon how noisy your band saw. This being a relative sort of thing, only you can determine the answer and then it is subjective. I have both of my band saws back together and they are as quiet as they have ever been.
They have all new bearings and that might be why.
The bearings that are adjustable have all been meticulously aligned to the blade. If I did anything to quiet my band saws, I think that might have been the solution.
I had no squealing bearings so I cannot comment on that other than to express an opinion. I believe the squeal comes from the blade slipping on the bearings when the bearings do not rotate at blade speed. Just conjecture.
I hope the contents of this thread is helpful to someone. I certainly has been for me. If for no other reason, it gave me something I could do in the shop during the time when my physical activities were limited. That is somewhat over now, for awhile.
