I would like to have a lesson on transporting and using moldings from the 3D library. I can get them into the model OK but after that I cannot figure out how to turn corners and make miters. I may just download a miter saw and try that!!!------:p

Wouldn't making miters be similar to the bird house roof example where the axis needs to be redefined?

You will have to down load Sketchup if you haven't already. The version I am using is free. Tom has instructions for doing this on his sight. There is plenty of time to catch up and I will be glad to help any way I can.

Well it has taken me all day, mostly on the crown molding but here it is. I expect to have some changes with the column on the right hand end after the Client sees these drawings. They handed me a pencil sketch to start with and I tried to explain that what they think is going to be a decorative column between this entertainment center and a display cabinet on the right (yet to be designed and drawn) is going to look like a large filler instead. Actually it kinda looks like a chimney to me.

nice overall design and great sketchup.

that column looks to me like a good place for cable runs and/or concealed storage. if I am guessing the depth right, you could probably run cables up the back and still store a few DVDs in there. could be they want to get some cables to the second floor without having to fish them through the wall.

one question, though: if this is an entertainment center, where does the heat go?

the 2 issues that I have with most of the COTS entertainment centers are: (1) all cables are expected to form a rats nest between the center and the wall (and that noone ever has a doorway in the wall next to the center) and (2) TVs, VCRs, amplifiers/receivers, and disc players are assumed to produce no heat and need no ventilation or are assumed to be immune to being placed in a closed box with a few hundred or thousand watts of heat.

It is going in an older single story ranch home. I will provide some ventilation and sometimes we install cooling fans. This one only gets components in the center pair of doors and a TV above. I have some tricks for providing space under the wooden top.
