I admit to not being much of a turner, but I wanted to do a little fancier pen turning and I found that my regular pen mandrel that I was using for the 7mm pens was just not working for me. I wanted to turn just the glue-up between centers. I split a mandrel leaving about 3/4" on each end for insertion into the brass cylinder. The combination seems to work well for me. I am sure others have used this setup or one that works better. Pics of the modified mandrel, glue-up and pens for comment.

Can't argue with the results.

For Turning tubes between centers, I made a 60 degree dead center out of oms maple scrap I had. Making a new on out of some acetal (delrin) I came across. I'll post photos of my setup when done.

I use my collet chuck to hold the dead center.
